ALLAN BLOODLINES BUYS RECORD BREAKING SALE TOPPER

Two fillies share the record at the Select Night of the National Yearling Sales of South Africa

3rd Apr 2008

On a very strong sale evening with a 31% increase in average, two very well bred fillies shared the top price this evening on the Select Night of the Emperors Palace National Yearling Sales of South Africa in Johannesburg.

Klawervlei Stud's Australian bred Royal Academy filly is out of a full sister to HOLY ROMAN EMPEROR with a host of other top class black type performers in her pedigree. One of the "talking horses" of the sale, the ring was abuzz when the auctioneer described her as the best bred filly he had ever offered in South Africa. Be that as it may, bidding was spirited with judges around the ring creating a flurry of activity amongst the spotters.

David Allan of Allan Bloodlines prevailed with a successful bid of R 3 million, a new record for a yearling filly in South Africa. "The filly is for a partnership that we have convened involving principally a British owner/breeder who is deeply involoved in and very supportive of our operations in the Northern Hemisphere," said Allan. "He and partners now move into South Africa and the filly will be put into training in the Cape." Pressed to outline the major attractions of the filly, he added "The main elements of the pedigree are those that brought such attention to her, but we are particularly keen on Royal Academy as a broodmare sire although this filly is all Danehill".

Colts did not quite get to the 3 million level, but several were purchased by the strongest overseas and domestic bidders approaching that price. It was matched when the last lot, a filly by champion sire Western Winter with high class South African close relatives was bought Blandford Bloodstock for Graham Beck.
