GRAND VIZIER THREE FOR THREE ON POLYTRACK

Son of Desert Style wins at Britain's newest racecourse

7th May 2008

4 year old gelding GRAND VIZIER sat nicely three wide over the mile of fresh polytrack surface at newly opened Great Leighs, neatly avoiding the kick back and holding a handy position. In a rerun of his first win, he sat level with the odds on favourite SWOP in the straight and wore him down to win by a head. Trainer Chris Wall continued his great form and was well served by stable apprentice Jack Mitchell whose 5lb claim may have done the trick, but he still had to have the horse in the right place and ride a strong finish - which he did.

The appalling coverage on AtTheRaces was an insult to the intelligent racing viewer, juggling USA racing, Irish racing and multiple commercials with the only Great Leighs pre-race commentary solely occupied by repetitive attempts at smart remarks about Luca Cumani, trainer of the favourite. Awful.

But the horse didn't know that and fairly romped down the straight, meandered into the winner's enclosure and remarked - one might guess - "Is this Great Leighs? OK, done that - please take me home".

Partners Peter Brown and Sue Cunningham eagerly await GRAND VIZIER's reappearance on grass.
