BRILLIANT WIN ON A BRILLIANT DAY'S RACING
Seven Veils scores on the fabulous J&B Met Day in Cape Town
30th Jan 2010
With three Group 1 races on the ten race card and a fashion scene that is a mix of the height of sophistication and outrageous flamboyance, J&B Met Day at Kenilworth Racecourse in Cape Town is a truly great sporting occasion.
In the J&B Met itself, the top or joint top race in South Africa, perennial champion POCKET POWER finally met his match in his full sister RIVER JETEZ in a 1-2 finish for fillies with POCKET POWER 3rd. Their sire Jet Master sired both dead-heaters in the Gr.1 Klawervlei Stud Majorca Stakes for fillies and top rider Anton Marcus gave a world-class exhibition in getting BRAVURA home first in the Cape Derby.
Meanwhile, Allan Bloodlines' STRAIGHT BAT RACING sent out twice winning filly SEVEN VEILS (Rich Man's Gold - Silky Dancer by Citidancer) to contest the 15 runner Grandwest Casino Fillies and Mares Handicap over 1200 metres - and contest it she did! Powering through a gap in the closing stages, the filly had enough in hand to race a length and a quarter clear to win the sprint comfortably under a fine ride by Kelvin Jupp. Perhaps some black type now beckons for Vaughan Marshall's charge. There is room for 5-10 additional members at R 8,600 / £720 / €825 / $1,150 for a full 12 months of year-round racing.
