Titus Two beaten a head in a good run

25th Jul 2010

The retirement in South Africa of TITUS ALONE coincided with his possible successor in England TITUS TWO having his first trouble free race and going down by a head to a red hot favourite at Yarmouth this afternoon over 7 furlongs with the rest of the field well behind.  This very tough 2 year old colt, an eye catching chestnut, should be able to win a maiden and will then go for nurseries or possibly follow his Yarmouth conqueror into better races.  After being blighted by a virus for too many weeks, it is good to see the Peter Chapple-Hyam horses running well again.

HINTLESHAM THOROUGHBREDS members had a great shout as Jack Mitchell had TITUS TWO in pole position entering the final furlong but only narrowly.  11/10 favourite BLOODSWEATANDTEARS looked like failing to justify his price but just got home a head in front of TITUS with the 3rd nearly 4 lengths away.  Both of them felt the fast ground.

TITUS ALONE won at Royal Ascot for David & Yoshiko Allan before they transferred him to South Africa where he won three times (total six wins) for the Allan Bloodlines club STRAIGHT BAT RACING trained by Vaughan Marshall.  Having had enough at seven, this stalwart has a new life near his old training premises and will be very actively ridden and perhaps competed, but not raced.
