YET ANOTHER MULTIPLE WINNER - AND A HAWK WING STORY!
Royal Trooper bravely wins at Warwick
29th Sep 2010
The odd thing about HAWK WING is that he is not as bad a stallion as people think. Allan Bloodlines has been a big supporter - and David Allan owns a beautiful oil painting of his head by Jacqui Stanhope - but he was not commercially applauded and was sold to Korea for a substantial sum.
But today, ROYAL TROOPER by HAWK WING, a Goffs Orby Yearling purchase by Allan Bloodlines, won his 4th race at Warwick making all over 1 mile 7 furlongs. fighting off a strong challenge and enhancing Allan's long list of multiple winners.
Congratulations are due to Mr John Barton, his owner, and to trainer James Given. Allan and co-selector Danni O'Neill were employed not only to identify the individual but also to apply their overnight genetic study to the choice and resultant recommendation, and it is a considerable training achievement to produce a staying horse on the flat to win from the front more than once. (The other colt bought with exactly the same level of Allanalysis for clients of James Given - also from Goffs as it happens - has won 6 races).
It was a good day for HAWK WING even though he has been in the Land of the Morning Calm for some time. John Barton had another runner at Ayr this fternoon named CHILLY FILLY (by MONTJEU trained by Mark Johnston) who nearly won but was beaten at 1 mile 5 furlongs by GRACEFUL DESCENT (Jim Goldie for Messrs Nisbet and Moffat) a son of HAWK WING. Jim Goldie's very good sprint handicapper HAWKEYETHENOO shows that HAWK WING sires sprinteres too!
And elsewhere in these notes you will see a report on the Epsom 2yo win of JOHN BISCUIT by HAWK WING, bought in utero by Allan Bloodlines after careful mating analysis. Not a great sire, but not as bad as all that.
