BUSY NATIONAL YEARLING SALES IN JOBURG
Allan sells and buys in an unusual but evolutionary market
17th Apr 2011
Our thanks to our consignors at the SA National Yearling Sales, 15-17 April, Hemel n Aarde and Arc En Ciel who greatly helped us sell all four in a tough market in which vendors' realism was a positive.
Actually the sale was good in spite of a 24% drop in average. The new Cape Premier Sale had taken 290 entries from the Nationals which had made up the space with lesser lights or youngsters that would normally have waited for the 2yo sale in August. Add the CPYS and the NYS together and the average was the same as last year's NYS. Evolution!
Allan Bloodlines in its name and in a team purchased a number of NYS yearlings at "value" prices as vendors mostly played the game and allowed reasonable reserves. Sires of our purchases included top broodmare sire JALLAD, the currently undervalued NATIONAL EMBLEM and the promising "JULY" winner GREYS INN.
Startlingly, top sires such as CAPTAIN AL and SILVANO were cool in the market except for very few high prices or reserves and the excellent NATIONAL EMBLEM continued his pricing slump whilst siring good winners. JET MASTER, WESTERN WINTER and TRIPPI, now a top USA sire dominated the top lots.
