There are one or two fantastically well bred stallions in South Africa that for one reason or another kicked off with small numbers  in their first arrangements. Their genes make Allan Bloodlines’ current representation of such a stallion both worthwhile and a pleasure.

The numbers game that is the modern stallion business is something that we are all involved in, but it is extremely gratifying when planned matings involving a stallion by one of the Daddys of Them All from a world class family start to get such a stallion on the right road.

ALADO stands at Arc En Ciel with Craig Carey. He is by DANZIG. ALADO not Craig. 50 sons of DANZIG have sired Gr.1 winners. ALADO is the next one.

ALADO is out of World Champion racemare ALBORADA whose 2011 activity is there for all to see in the attached pedigree, along with just a snapshot of her phenomenal lineage which you will be delighted to hear we shall not bang on about in these paragraphs. Please see the pedigree for that. And please note that this particular publisher does not put L after the Listed races, so it could be a lot more “black typed”.

Now wouldn’t you just love to have an ALADO filly destined for your broodmare band?

Or a colt on the racecourse. Like Half Moon Hotel, owned and bred by Miss Kirsten Rausing**, a 2yo by ALADO, Listed 2nd yesterday on his second outing in the Somerset at Kenilworth, unlucky in getting squeezed coming through when Karl Nesius thought he had first run and would be hard to catch. OK, it’s not a championship performance by itself but the winner is a very decent colt indeed and this youngster will be far better at 1400 or maybe a mile so a bit of early black type is something nice along the way. Vaughan Marshall is in superb form with his 2 year olds but looks ahead to their 3 and 4 year old careers when, like the ALADOs, they have the scope.

HALF MOON HOTEL’s 3yo sibling won the other day in Joburg and his 4yo full sister has battled against size mattering (unlike her scopey brother she is vertically challenged but like all ALADOs we know she tries and tries and should win soon to add to her places). HALF MOON HOTEL may have won first time out and Listed placed as a follow up at 2, but all of this sort of thing is a bonus when you are putting genes like ALADO’s into a mare well suited to DANZIG influence with a heavy dose of World Class 2000 metre performance in the dam. Just look at those broodmare sires, ALZAO and one of the greatest modern broodmare sires of all DARSHAAN.

NORTHERN CONQUEST (ALADO out of a CAESOUR mare) has already shown class in winning three times, placing a lot and running well in 2yo Features before even half filling his big frame. Watch him in Durban. After his last win at 1600 metres running on, the 3yo may re-start at 1400 but the ALADO genes and those of his dam suggest that a range of trips could be encompassed.

**ALADO’s owner/breeder Miss Kirsten Rausing now has a band of mares with ALADO foals on the ground. As racing and breeding managers, Allan Bloodlines’ school report card should read “A promising start at this subject and may do better”. Of course. Because better planned matings are coming through with more ALADOs being “worked out” by several trainers and some super individuals on the ground. Every son of DANZIG is different through his mother, but Daddy’s influence is so colossal that we are “tweaking” matings in consultation with ALADO’s owner/breeder at an excellent level.

With that knowledge and more refinement, so the matings should get better still. ALADO is owned by the owner** of Lanwades and Staffordstown Studs – the former standing superb SELKIRK (15th Individual Gr.1 winner on World Cup Night) and other Champion sires NINISKI and HERNANDO whose tally brings the total by these to 34 Gr.1 winners so far, plus ARCHIPENKO, de Kock trained Gr.1 winner by KINGMAMBO and new young star SIR PERCY – see ALBORADA pedigree. These stand alongside ALADO’s newly arrived DANEHILL cousin AUSSIE RULES sire of more top juveniles than you think and 8 3yo winners this year already!
